Supposed Canadian Rock On CI

The remaining six contestants were supposed to do Canadian Rock songs this week on Canadian Idol. Most of them seemed to miss the Rock part of the assignment. If the producers weren't going to enforce the genre, why didn't they just make the theme Canadian music in general as they've done in seasons past? Regardless of the theme, the contestants brought another night of mostly passionless performances.

Following is the It's Destiny! panel's take on the CI6 Top 6: Canadian "Rock".

Amberly Thiessen "1234"
Tammy: Why, hello there, pitch problems! You do seem to be hanging around Amberly quite a bit as of late. I wasn’t greatly impressed with any aspect of this performance. Her gothic ensemble appeared to be at odds with her folky song choice. This song doesn’t really work as anything other than a toe-tapping sing-a-long. Watching her trying to work the audience with the more pop-ish version, silently pleading, “Love me! Vote for me!” made me uncomfortable. Because that performance? Is totally not vote-worthy. Sorry, Amberly.
Score: 6.5

Theo Tams "Sweet Ones"
Tammy: Okay, Theo wins some brownie points from me for that song choice alone. Yay, Sarah Slean! I can’t find anything to hate with this performance (although if he were gracing us with another ill-advised scarf, that’d be another story). I almost wish that he had gone a little ‘bigger’ with the song a la Slean, but that’s okay, he probably didn’t want to scare Canada, I can understand that.
Score: 9.0

Mitch MacDonald "Love This Town"
Tammy: Mitch performed this Indie tune well, but I wonder if the unfamiliar song choice might be his undoing. Though at times he sounded a bit nasal, he was confident and sincere, and he’s infinitely likeable. And slightly adorable?
Score: 9.0

Earl Stevenson "Little Bones"
Tammy: Wow, what a mess. Worst Earl performance ever? That song did not fit Earl’s voice at all. The love from the judges won’t change the fact that he’s no doubt bottom-three bound after that. Ye-ikes. Can I also take a moment to add how overrated the Hip are? You gave me the worst concert of my life, Gord Downie! It was ten years ago, but yes, I'm still bitter.
Score: 7.0

Drew Wright "That Song"
Tammy: Oof. Drew got off to a rough start, being overwhelmed by the backing instruments. He did sort of bring it back home with the chorus and falsetto bit. But I gotta agree with the critique that he’s not passionate enough onstage. I don’t understand why he doesn’t push himself more. Make me believe you, Drew!
Score: 8.0

Mookie Morris "Magic Carpet Ride"
Tammy: Mookie is fun to watch, and I’m glad he ditched those sunglasses almost immediately. Sometimes it seems like he’s trying a bit too hard to be putting on a rock star persona. But at least he puts it all out there (hint, hint, Drew).
Score: 8.7

Who Should Be Eliminated
Tammy: Amberly
