Canadian Idol Top 9 Girls
Perform 'Karaoke Nonsense'

While the Top 9 guys stepped it up this week, the girls took a step back, performing what Zack Werner called "karaoke nonsense". Can't we just vote out four girls instead of two guys and two girls this week?

Following is the It's Destiny! panel's take on the CI5 Top 18: The Girls.

Martha Joy "To Where You Are"
Liza: Oh look, another treacly ballad for Martha Joy. Zzzzzz. Her timing/phrasing was off-putting. I'm kind of like those little kids they showed in the audience who were just sitting there with their arms crossed.
Score: 6.5
Tammy: Agreed. I’ve had more than enough of her broadway-esque overemoting. No way does this sort of dreck belong on Idol. Who exactly is clamoring to hear/buy this kind of music? Know your audience, Martha.
Score: 6.0

Tara Oram "Safe In The Arms Of Love"
Liza: - It was vocally acceptable, but I agree wholeheartedly with Farley - she needed to put more oomph into her performance. Carrie Underwhelming indeed.
Score: 7.0
Tammy: It was kind of like...she was just...singing the words, but they had absolutely no meaning. Very robotic. I could do without another week of her. I’m convinced the judges just put her through because she’s a ‘genre’ singer, and could add some variety. She’s definitely not there for her (dubious) singing talents. Enough already. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.
Score: 6.9

Naomi-Joy Blackhall "Here With Me"
Liza: This was a huge improvement over last week, but she had nowhere else to go but up after last week's trainwreck. I get a distinct "all style, no substance" vibe from her, though.
Score: 6.75
Tammy: The whole thing just came off as so staged, and so cabaret. She didn’t appear to give any thought behind the meaning of the song, but focused more on draping herself on her chair and giving the audience various poses. Blech.
Score: 6.0

Carly Rae Jepsen "Sweet Ones"
Liza: She's doing a good job of picking out well-suited songs for her, but she still hasn't improved her stage mannerisms since last week. Her pole dancing with the mic stand was embarrassing, not to mention her near lap dance with Andrew!
Score: 7.75
Tammy: She does pick good songs, but I did not like what she did with it. The growling of the lyrics seemed so wrong, and her cutesy-pie prancing about the stage really is beginning to grate. It all just seems like such an act. I wish she’d just feel the lyrics, instead of near-frantically trying to stand out from the pack.
Score: 7.0

Scarlett Burke "Proud Mary"
Liza: And unlike the last performance, this was a very bad song choice and a very bad way to sing it. It was like she was singing a cross between CCR's version and Tina Turner's. And don't get me started on those "ha!"s she kept throwing in.
Score: 5.0
Tammy: And what was with the absolute WAILING that she tacked on at the end, trying to inject some ‘soul’ (or whatever that was supposed to be) into her snoreworthy performance? This is one of those cheesetacular songs for which you should automatically be eliminated from the competition, just for choosing it.
Score: 5.0

Montana Martin Iles "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs"
Liza: Fall Out Boy, how appropriate. I didn't like the way she sang this at all. She didn't project well, and this was another performance that was all style, no substance. Sorry to pick on the accent, but tanks but no tanks.
Score: 7.25
Tammy: The ‘tanks’ was driving me up the wall, too. But not nearly as much as her singing. This girl is getting a free pass just on stage presence alone, which is completely unfair, because she really is NOT the ‘next big thing’ that the judges are proclaiming her to be. Her singing is completely out of tune and almost painful to listen to. Just because she’s ‘punk’ *rolls eyes*, Zack, doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have to be able to carry a tune.
Score: 5.5

Mila Miller "Try A Little Tenderness"
Liza: That was kind of weird for me because one second I felt she was being unauthentic, and then the next second, she was growling something, and I totally believed it. Overall, good, but she could have infused more grit into it the whole time to make it more believable.
Score: 7.5
Tammy: I second your ‘weird’ vibe. I like her, I like how she performs, I just really don’t like how she sings. There’s an awkwardness about it. And this is a song where the singer can really let loose (as anyone who has seen the film Duets can attest. Come on, don’t let Paul Giamatti outsing you!
Score: 7.2

Annika Odegard "Super Duper Love"
Liza: Speaking of unauthentic ... I didn't buy this blue-eyed soul routine one bit. But yes, definitely better than last week.
Score: 6.5
Tammy: Okay, so it wasn’t heartfelt, but I think we can say that about...um...all of the performances tonight? This girl really did not deserve the public flogging that she got for this song. I thought she showed a lot of enthusiasm and looked much more comfortable onstage tonight.
Score: 6.9

Khalila Glanville "I Can't Help Myself"
Liza: Oh dear ... this is pure American Idol shlop. I don't know what is more unbelievable, that she messed up the lyrics or that this earned the pimp spot.
Score: 6.75
Tammy: This is another one of those songs that should automatically eject you from the competition. Good grief. Calling this mediocre would be too generous.
Score: 6.0

Who Should Be Eliminated
Liza: Scarlett, Annika, Martha Joy, Naomi-Joy (shall I keep going? Because I can ...)
Tammy: Ha! What she said.

Who Will Be Eliminated
Liza: Scarlett, Annika
Tammy: Naomi-Joy, Martha Joy
