It's Destiny!'s own Liza and Tammy continue their coverage of Rock Star: Supernova. Following is Liza's take on this week's reality episode.

I WRITE SINS NOT TRAGEDIES
(Recap by Liza)
After last week's elimination show, the Top 5 Supernova hopefuls toasted the latest cast-off, Ryan Star, who Lukas Rossi calls "one of the best songwriters I've ever lived with". Which, unless Lukas has lived with a lot of songwriters in his life, is kind of like me saying that Lukas is the best Canadian I've seen on Rock Star: Supernova. Dilana laments screwing up her song and hitting a blank. Lukas tries to make her feel better, saying, "You're only human, man." Dilana's response? "You did it on "Celebrity Skin"." Gee, I'm sure Lukas appreciated that little dig. Holy Jordis Unga. Dilana Single-White-Females Jordis' look in a confessional, where she states that it was her worst performance ever.
Back in the mansion, Magni acknowledges Toby Rand's encore by smashing cake in his face, like Toby had done to Ryan for each of his encores. The cake-smashing escalates into a near food fight, and each rocker ends up wearing some food or drink by the time the smoke clears. They all end up jumping into the pool fully clothed, except for Storm, who jumps in topless.
Dilana continues to brood over her poor performance in the bottom three, and Magni notes that up until this point, Dilana had never even come close to messing up until now, and now that she has felt the pressure, we'll see the real Dilana.
The rockers get to hear the track they will be writing lyrics for in the next songwriting clinic. It's a very heavy rock song, and Lukas says it has the best vibe of all of the songs he has heard from the band. He starts singing along to it right away, much like he did in previous songwriting clinics, and Toby runs out of the room because, as he says in confessional, you don't want to "hinder other people's ears with your melodies, and Lukas is great at doing that." While everyone else is singing and writing, Dilana writes down the arrangement, but she has nothing else.
Storm Large is the first to meet with Gilby. Her song is tentatively titled "Maniac Night Light". She is really nervous about the collaboration. Gilby discourages her from being so melodic (gah! that's what makes the song decent, you tool!) and wants it to be more rhythmic. He also applauds her balance of professionalism and fun. Storm says that collaborating with Gilby was laid-back and easy and that chemistry with your bandmates is so important.
Magni starts his session by telling Gilby that he has a little bit of a "minority complex" (aww Magni, your ESL is so cute) writing in English because it's not his native tongue. He says that 90% of rock lyrics have the same vocabulary and the same cliches. Gilby is disappointed with Magni, saying he didn't think his lyrics were exciting and that he doesn't know how creative Magni can be.
Lukas says the music is right up his alley, the kind of music he has recorded before. Gilby really likes Lukas' song, saying he didn't take the generic route melodically and that's what he's always looking for in a song. I guess I can see where he's coming from. Because you don't hear lyrics like "hey hey hey ho ho ho" every day. Gilby wants to work on a second verse, but Lukas doesn't have one because he couldn't get out of the box of his first verse. Gilby is irritated by this and has to spend more time writing with Lukas than with anybody else. "Lukas' competition is himself," Gilby says. "I think he feels this is his to lose." (Why Gilby is so annoyed by having to help write the song is beyond me...isn't working together the very point of this clinic? Eh? - Tammy)
Toby belts out his lyrics to an impressed Gilby, who says Toby comes in with a fresh approach and energy that Supernova needs. Gilby says that Toby had the most complete contribution and that he has been listening to the music and the whole package, whereas the others (Lukas is the name that was obviously pulled out in editing) have been listening song by song. Gilby tells Toby that they want someone who will have ideas they didn't think of, someone who is not a puppet. This makes Toby happy.
The one question mark with Dilana has been her songwriting. She only has "kind of a melody". Her song is called "Metamorphosis (Lizard Skin)". She says it's about the internet and the voters and is a "'screw you' kind of song". Keep at it, Dilana, and you'll not only hit the bottom 3 but you'll get raucous applause when you get your pink slip this week. (The way to win back your fans is by penning a song condemning them...brilliant strategy, Dilana. Oy. -Tammy) Gilby says her writing is a little cliche and predictable, albeit the best they have seen from her so far (which doesn't say much). The banjo twang of shame makes not one but two appearances when Dilana explains a lyric with the word scream in it as "like a laptop screams" and again when she wants to add the lyrics "control+alt+delete". BWAHHHHHH! She seriously outdid her lotion and thong. Unbelievable! Gilby says it doesn't seem as if she has a big imagination. Dilana says in her confessional interview that she didn't think coming in that songwriting would be such an issue. She thought she was auditioning to be a singer, and that's all she's ever done - sing. That's pretty apparent.
Gilby wraps up by ominously saying that if you're not bringing anything to us, "what the hell do we need you for." (After hearing some of your tracks, I'm pretty sure many of the contestants could throw that right back at ya, Gilby. -Tammy)
Time for song selection. There are five songs on the board and a letter saying they will perform their own set - a song from the board and an original song. They sit down to choose amongst the five songs. Dilana and Lukas both want "Behind Blue Eyes". Dilana wants it because the lyrics are fitting to what is going on in her life. "No one knows what it's like to be the bad man, the sad man." Really, Dilana? No one knows but you? She asks Lukas what his reasoning for wanting the song is. He replies that he doesn't care about the reasoning; he likes the melody, and it's a cool song. (Has Lukas fought for a song even once this season? He could have killed this song! Stop giving in so easily! Take no prisoners! -Tammy)
Magni tries to avoid the inevitable fight by manipulating Lukas into picking "Back in the U.S.S.R." or "Living on a Prayer", saying Lukas can choose one of them, and he'll do the other. They are all trying to get Lukas to do "Living on a Prayer" because no one wants it, and they stroke Lukas' ego by saying he's the only one who can turn it into a cool song. He is up for the challenge and takes the Bon Jovi song much to the delight and relief of everyone else.
At rehearsal, Storm sings her original, "Lady Like". She says there was a point in the competition where she lost herself and was trying to be sexier and show more skin, but that just isn't her. She's just going to go up there and be her. "Here I am. I'm Storm Large, and I'm a freak!" she says.
Dilana loves "Behind Blue Eyes" but only knows it from Limp Bizkit. There were parts she had never heard before that she is going to have to learn, and Paul Mirkovich is concerned that Dilana is coming in and changing the song from a position of ignorance. (Also? Changing lyrics to suit her gender? Hate! 'Sad man' to'Sad girl'? Ugh! -Tammy)
Will Dilana's struggles continue? And whose original will shine? Check back on Tuesday to find out.
