Judges Rule On Canadian Idol 4

The Top 4 sang songs of the judges' choosing Monday night on Canadian Idol 4. While audio problems abounded and song choices and cuttings left something to be desired, the night managed to stay on track due to the talent pool alone.

Following is the It's Destiny! panel's take on the CI4 Top 4: Judges' Choice.

Tyler Lewis "Big League"
Destiny: This was really a nothing performance. Tyler was inaudible for the majority of the song, and when he could be heard and understood, it was average or below. Not Tyler's shining moment by a long shot.
Score: 5.5
Tammy: Agreed. Very bad. The most interesting part of the performance was the slow motion deep knee bends. This was really a poor choice by the judges, it did nothing to showcase Tyler, and I was happy when it was over.
Score: 6.5
Liza: Tyler should have taken lessons from the backup singer on those low notes because he was struggling in the beginning. I agree with both of you. Blah. Next!
Score: 6.2

Chad Doucette "Hanging By A Moment"
Destiny: The sound mixer from American Idol must have been in Canada this week, because Chad's vocals, not unlike Tyler's before him, were in the background rather than the foreground where they belonged. That being considered, Chad sounded great. There was a bit of a disconnect throughout, however, preventing it from being a great performance. I don't know whether the blame falls on the audio mix, the cut/arrangement of the song, or Chad himself.
Score: 8.0
Tammy: Eh, I'd blame Chad. He was seriously disconnected with this song for most of the performance and looked COMPLETELY uncomfortable when singing it. I don't buy that he liked this song.
Score: 6.0
Liza: I felt like I was watching Cher and Jacob Hoggard fighting over who gets to possess Chad. Cher wanted the voice, and Jacob wanted the movements and stupid facial expressions. Chad, dude, open up your throat!! And join Tyler on those lessons on singing the low notes.
Score: 6.0

Craig Sharpe "Careless Whisper"
Destiny: Craig sounded really good on this song, and he would have sounded even better if the audio mix had been better this week. He, like the two before him, seemed a little distracted/disconnected, and I am thinking the audio problems were the culprit.
Score: 8.8
Tammy: Meh, bad audio mix or not, the problem I had with this performance is the same that I have with every Craig performance, he just sings the song, but seemingly gives no thought whatsoever to the lyrics. Next!
Score: 6.5
Liza: That was such a Euro-pop performance. It's the kind of performance I would have expected to see from Ace Young early in the American Idol competition. Craig sang it well technically, but his whole thing is just not my bag. And Craig needs to go back to English class because it's not "guilty feet has got no rhythm". Feet are plural, dude.
Score: 6.7

Eva Avila "Would I Lie To You"
Destiny: Could she be any cuter? As for the song, the arrangement was a little too choppy and the audio was still off, but Eva commanded the stage better than anyone so far this week.
Score: 8.8
Tammy: Good grief, I thought this was Eva's worst performance ever on the show! What's with ripping off the Annie Lennox look? How about bringing some originality? Eva looked lost as she sang, like she couldn't believe that she was stuck with this song. Ugh. If this is what the best performer is bringing, it's gonna be a long night.
Score: 6.0
Liza: Eva could be a lot cuter. Seriously, she is the last girl left, and she's stunningly beautiful. Why on earth did she allow the stylists to make her look like a man, or, even worse, make the conscious decision to choose this look herself?! Some of her stage moves looked ridiculous, like the Blues Brothers' running in place to the horns bit. Oh boy. And if the judges had to pick an Annie Lennox song, why this one and not "Why", which could have been ridiculously amazing?!
Score: 6.2

Tyler Lewis "Tears In Heaven"
Destiny: The audio mix was much better on this song, but unfortunately all that did was highlight Tyler's vocal problems. Yikes. Flat and warped. I was seriously surprised at the judges' high praise. What?
Score: 5.0
Tammy: While marginally better than his first performance, it was still a half-hearted effort from Tyler. What is up with these contestants tonight? Are the nerves starting to set in as they approach the finish line? Considering how well past CI winners are doing as of late, I'd be more nervous about winning than losing at this point!
Score: 6.7
Liza: I wanted the cameras to stay on the guitarist; I'd rather watch him play than watch Tyler trying to figure out what to do with his arms. The vocals were better on this song, but I have heard him sing better.
Score: 7.2

Chad Ducette "Everbody Hurts"
Destiny: A great song choice for Chad. His voice and interpretation skills are the best in the competition. This wasn't even his best performance ever, and it still left me thinking that he's definitely up there with the greats of Canadian Idol. He's one of those contestants who is so good that if he doesn't find success in the music industry it will be frustrating because it will be due to pure lack of good management and promotion.
Score: 9.0
Tammy: I wanted to like this. The song choice seemed like it would be a perfect fit for Chad! But the boy was COMPLETELY flat and devoid of any emotion as he sang. Very disappointing. I don't doubt that with a few more years toiling away in the industry and hammering out some sort of musical identity, Chad could perhaps come out with something very interesting. But he ain't there yet.
Score: 6.0
Liza: The opening of the song was so sing-songy and all kinds of wrong. It hurts, dude; we're not on Sesame Street! I'll partially blame the sped-up arrangement, but putting on a sad/angsty facial expression isn't akin to letting us in to feel your pain. And I'm thinking that at 17 years old, he hasn't lived enough to feel the pain.
Score: 6.1

Craig Sharpe "Tears of a Clown"
Destiny: That's the most energy we've seen from Craig in a performance. He sounded fantastic and was evidently trying to show some versatility. Not my favorite Craig showing ever, but I did enjoy it.
Score: 8.8
Tammy: Do I really have to say it? Okay, I will. I hated it. Hated the song, hated the performance. Covered in wrong sauce!! (TM Tommy Lee)
Score: 5.0
Liza: I thought Craig was straining big time in the beginning, but he did hit a nice falsetto. I've got to say that the judges' standards for entertainment are pretty sad because I was totally embarrassed for the boy with his unfortunate dance moves.
Score: 5.2

Eva Avila "Old School Love"
Destiny: Eva was great again. Love her singing, her style, and her performance skills. She's fun to watch and never drops the ball, which is reminiscent of other Idol greats like Kelly Clarkson. Good onya, Canadian Idol for finding such great contenders as Eva, Chad and Craig after such a dry spell last year.
Score: 9.0
Tammy: It was a struggle to stick through an entire hour of such mediocrity, but this performance (somewhat) made up for it. Eva sang well and seemed to be in her element, though at times she seemed a bit ill at ease (again, nerves?), but there is no doubt this is the best performance of the night.
Score: 8.5
Liza: That certainly redeemed the night. That was quite an impressive vocal showcase, and for a moment, I felt like I wasn't watching Canadian Idol, and that's a good thing!
Score: 9.0

Who Should Be The Bottom Two
Destiny: Tyler, Tyler (OK, if I have to choose another I'll say Tyler and Craig)
Tammy: Can we make it a bottom three and put everyone except for Eva there? Because everyone else brought varying levels of suck tonight.
Liza: Craig, Chad

Who Will Be The Bottom Two
Destiny: Tyler, Chad
Tammy: Craig, Chad
Liza: Craig, Chad

Who Should Be Eliminated
Destiny: Tyler
Tammy: Everyone but Eva?
Liza: Heh. I'll go with Craig because I've been asking for it for weeks now.

Who Will Be Eliminated
Destiny: Chad (NO!!!!!!!)
Tammy: Chad (eh, what can you do?)
Liza: Chad (no cries of dismay for me; Zayra from Rock Star: Supernova outsung him by a mile on "Everybody Hurts")
