Unplugged and Unleashed On Canadian Idol 4

Canadian Idol moved to a more intimate setting for the Top 6 unplugged show, and the Top 6 responded with standout performances for the special show.

Following is the It's Destiny! panel's take on the CI4 Top 6: Unplugged.

Craig Sharpe "It's My Life"
Tammy: Horrible song choice for an acoustic night. 'It's My Life' is a big, anthemic song. Of all the songs to choose for an acoustic night, you choose this one? WHY? My main problem with Craig in this performance, and pretty much every performance of his, is that he just never is able to *feel* the song or convincingly connect with it. The boy can have the most perfect pitch in the world, but if the singing isn't believable, it's boring.
Score: 7.3
Liza: Fully agreed. I think Chantal (whose speaking voice sounds kinda like Craig's) totally nailed it - he's too busy singing it technically (i.e. concentrating on the glory notes) to try to connect emotionally with the song. And this is a horrible choice for unplugged night. I honestly think he chose this song for the sole purpose of glory noting. I was perplexed by Zack's comments. Craig is a big personality? He HAS a personality??
Score: 6.7

Ashley Coulter "Crying"
Tammy: Chantal was tremendously helpful with her criticism of Ashley this week. Cutting down on the 'bluesy' aspects of her singing really allowed her voice to shine. This chill-inducing version was heartfelt and Ashley's best performance to date. The only mis-step was the dreadful 70s inspired blouse, which was better left in the CI stylist's attic.
Score: 9.7
Liza: That was lovely. Her vocals were nearly flawless, but I felt like the wandering around the tiny stage was a bit out of place in that venue and intimate setting. And she looked scarily like Nikki McKibbin. With much better pipes, of course.
Score: 8.9

Chad Doucette "Santa Monica"
Tammy: This was an absolutely perfect song choice for Chad. When Chad pushes his voice too much, he has a tendency to have pitch problems. The softer 'Santa Monica' fit him like a glove, vocally. He seemed much more comfortable than he has been in weeks, and his version of 'Santa Monica' rivaled the original.
Score: 9.5
Liza: Finally Chad reminds us again why we liked him so much in the beginning. He has struggled a lot in the last few weeks, and this was his best performance in a long time. Zack is once again befuddling with his comments because this is an intimate acoustic show; I don't get why Chad was supposed to be big with that.
Score: 9.3

Steffi D. "Lovefool"
Tammy: Steffi benefits from choosing to sit atop her piano tonight, as she doesn't have to run about the stage trying to hit her marks as she sings, and can just concentrate on that, singing. She seemed to be having a ball as she performed, and continues to bring that indefinable spark to the CI stage. Loved it.
Score: 9.4
Liza: Does this girl know how to pick songs, or what? This is another great fit for her vocal style, and once again she manages to entertain. I thought the sitting on the piano thing was a bit much, borderline cheesy, but that's Steffi in a nutshell. Heh. Vocals sounded spot on.
Score: 9.0

Eva Avila "How Come You Don't Call Me"
Tammy: Her 'alrights' were a bit unnecessary/annoying. Her outfit seemed a bit busy. But her singing? Was fantastic. Great, great performance. The girl really is a natural.
Score: 9.5
Liza: I felt like I was watching some star singer on MTV Unplugged, not Canadian Idol. She has SO MUCH star power and phenomenal vocals. I'm also amazed at her versatility. She can handle so many different genres.
Score: 9.8

Tyler Lewis "If You Could Only See"
Tammy: Tyler should have grabbed a stool for this performance. The bouncy knees continue to distract. I almost want to go all Tonya Harding on him just to make it stop! Tyler countrifies this song and somehow makes it work. He seems near ready to export to CMT. Not feelin' the flat ironed hair this week, however...those bangs need help.
Score: 9.2
Liza: Holy hat hair! That look is atrocious. I thought he sang this well; I like the country rock sound that he brought to it. His stage presence still leaves little to be desired, but if you just listen without watching (which I more or less did because my media player is acting up), the performance is great.
Score: 9.0

Who Should Be The BottomTwo

Liza: Craig, Ashley

Who Will Be The Bottom Two

Destiny: Ashley, Steffi

Who Should Be Eliminated
