Canadian Idol 4 Rocks Out

Following is the It's Destiny! panel's take on the CI4 Top 7: Classic Rock.

Rob James "Some Kind Of Wonderful"
Liza: His falsetto notes were a bit weak, but the performance was solid, and he received some good advice from the celebrity guests about holding back and smiling. Rob looked very comfortable up there on stage while he was performing. Once he finished, though, it was another story. He looked like he was going to hurl as soon as it was over! haha
Score: 8.0
Tammy: I thought it was a very blah song choice and it wouldn't surprise me to see a bottom three appearance as a result of this song. The whole 'happy go lucky' song and dance just doesn't inspire a lot of votes, in my opinion. He sang and presented the song about as well as he could (though I'm very disappointed in the disappearance of his usual tight tshirts this week), but the overall impression wasn't especially memorable.
Score: 7.4

Tyler Lewis "Simple Man"
Liza: Tyler sitting down on a stool is the most tolerable way of watching him perform. When he doesn't throw in those awkward stage mannerisms, you can just focus on that great voice. He lost me a bit when he stood up and did the awkward moves, but vocally it was his best so far.
Score: 8.8
Tammy: Agreed. Tyler's voice sounded fantastic on this song. But who told him to step away from the flat iron?? That hair...agh! It must be tamed!
Score: 8.6

Eva Avila "Who Wants To Live Forever"
Liza: I am a bit disappointed that she strayed from the spirit of the theme by doing this song more Celine Dion than Queen, but she sang it well and with conviction. But the best performance of the Top 10? It's not even her best of the Top 10!
Score: 8.3
Tammy: Seriously! It was good, but it certainly wasn't the Second Coming that the judges hailed it to be. She hit all the right notes, but the band seemed to be overpowering her in some sections (as was often the case tonight), and she never really seemed to lose herself in the song.
Score: 8.3

Craig Sharpe "Cold As Ice"
Liza: I didn't buy a single second of this, and thank you, Jake, for finally saying something even remotely critical of Craig. Or even anyone. The judges' tongue-baths all season long are bordering on the ridiculous. Anyway, back to Craig. The "performance" aspect of this was embarrassingly awful and schlocky. I would rather see Brandon's "hip-hop" moves instead of that abomination that Craig showed. Good thing the guy seems to have perfect pitch or he'd have been gone long ago.
Score: 4.5
Tammy: There are no words. This was positively dreadful. The now customary drop to the knees? The faux pounding of the floor? Excuse me while I gag. Pitch does not make a performer. A performance makes a performer, and this one is yet to show up with the goods worthy of the hype he's been receiving.
Score: 3.0

Ashley Coulter "Knockin' On Heaven's Door"
Liza: Her vocals were fantastic tonight, but I am not a fan of her hair color (it's almost as white as Dennis DeYoung's hair) or her stage moves (the squatting and the low arm pumping look really silly). She has stunning facial features, but she mucks it up with horrific hairdos most of the time.
Score: 8.3
Tammy: Ashley needs to stop taking her makeup tips from Christina Aguilera. There's a pretty girl hidden underneath all that, I'm sure. Tonight was the first time that I heard Ashley's vocals and bought her as a rock chick. Yes, her stage moves need some work, but at least there's some clay here to mold.
Score: 8.5

Chad Doucette "Bad Side Of The Moon"
Liza: I don't really get where Roger and Dennis were coming from when they said Chad's a really good singer because he has some major limitations with his voice. The Cher throat thing resurfaced, and he sounded like a strangled cat on those held notes in the middle and in the end. He's a compelling performer, but the vocals just aren't doing it for me on a consistent basis.
Score: 7.0
Tammy: Chad has gotten progressively worse as this competition continues on. Who has been misguiding this poor soul during rehearsals? Because as Liza noted, on his held notes he sounds positively horrible. Is Byrd responsible, nodding and saying 'Good! Exactly like that!'? I actually cringed during that middle section of the song. Bring back the Chad of earlier in the competition!!
Score: 6.0

Steffi D. "Life On Mars"
Liza: I usually like Steffi's theatrics, but I didn't enjoy this one as much. I thought her vocals were a bit rough. And someone did a really bad job with her hair extensions. Just sayin'.
Score: 7.0
Tammy: I was disappointed in Steffi's outfit this week. This song was worthy of some 'Space Oddity' costuming. She usually can be counted on to bring the flash, but this week...not so much. Vocally, I thought she was decent, though I can't imagine this song connected with many viewers. Ah well. Can't say she's not brave!
Score: 7.8
