Rolling Stones For Canadian Idol Top 9

The Top 9 on Canadian Idol 4 hit the stage with the music of the Rolling stones Monday night. With such stylized material, most of the contestants surprisingly were able to put their own spin on the songs.

Following is the It's Destiny! panel's take on the CI4 Top 9: Rolling Stones.

Chad Doucette "You Can't Always Get What You Want"
Tammy: Chad chose this song to meander around the audience, which looked a bit uncomfortable, as they couldn't have looked less involved or impressed. I am yet to see an instance in the Idol franchise where jumping into the crowd hasn't looked hokey. The tapered pants were also an interesting choice. And by interesting I mean bad. Vocally, it wasn't that impressive, but it remained constant with what he usually does, which is always just quirky enough to be entertaining.
Score: 8.2
Destiny: I thought Chad sounded great on this song, really making it his own. I agree, though, that the audience couldn't look less involved as he walked amongst them.
Score: 9.0

Eva Avila "Wild Horses"
Tammy: The perfect song choice for Eva! Gorgeous. Her voice floated effortlessly to the higher notes, and obviously she has picked up some tips on emoting from the School of Doucette.
Score: 9.4
Destiny: This was another beautiful performance from Eva. She has really stepped up her game these last two weeks as a performer. She looked stunning again, too.
Score: 9.4

Tyler Lewis "Paint It Black"
Tammy: Suffering from some pitch problems early on, and resorting to some deep knee bends, (hoping perhaps that it would once again pass for 'stage presence'?), it wasn't one of Tyler's better performances.
Score: 7.7
Destiny: I, too, thought Tyler had vocal problems throughout this performance. I was really caught off guard with the judges' high praise as I thought they were going to rip him to shreds. Strange. I do have to commend Tyler, however, for his extreme effort in trying to change and better his stage presence. You can see how hard he is trying.
Score: 7.5

Sarah Loverock "I Got The Blues"
Tammy: Whoa, the makeup person needs to back away from Sarah, ASAP. She was sportin' some Spock eyebrows this week. The song really went nowhere, and was rather forgettable. A rather confusing and bland song choice. It does not bode well for her chances of sticking around.
Score: 7.6
Destiny: I agree that this was not a great song choice for Sarah. She sounded really good on the song, but it didn't make her stand out. She is on the Amber Fleury path, where no matter how much the judges tell her she needs to amp it up and appeal to the youth, she chooses to put mellow Adult Contemporary on the stage. Fleury's presence in the audience Monday may very well have been an ominous precursor to Loverock's elimination.
Score: 8.0

Brandon Jones "Jumpin' Jack Flash"
Tammy: I must have been very bad in a former life to deserve this sort of punishment. A completely lifeless performance from beginning to end. And please, let this be the end!
Score: 6.0
Destiny: I still disagree with you about Brandon. He is the epitome of a teen pop idol. Teen pop idols are not known for being great singers, but they are known for having that certain innocent stage presence that appeals to the young female masses. This performance, particularly the shoulder move at the end, is sure to be a favorite of Brandon's fans.
Score: 8.0

Ashley Coulter "Gimme Shelter"
Tammy: Ashley is unconvincing with her 'rocker chick' persona. It looks like she's wearing a costume onstage. Though a bit blah vocally as she began the song, Ashley roared through the finish.
Score: 7.9
Destiny: I agree that she looked like she was wearing a costume. And what on earth was she thinking with the hair? I just can't imagine why anyone would request mullet extensions from their stylist. She sounded OK during the song, but it wasn't great. I think she could be some sort of a star, but she hasn't quite found her niche yet.
Score: 7.5

Rob James "Start Me Up"
Tammy: There were a few flat notes, but Rob brought some energy tonight and impressed by 'stepping outside the box'. The tight tshirt and jeans didn't hurt either. Rawr!
Score: 8.4
Destiny: Rob really did step outside of his box with this one. He didn't sound fantastic, but the effort he put into the performance is to be commended.
Score: 8.0

Steffi DiDomenicantonio "Miss You"
Tammy: Wow. Now this girl is so entertaining! A completely natural performance, and she has such command of the stage! Impressive. Can't wait to see more. She is definitely more than just 'theatre'.
Score: 9.5
Destiny: This was fantastic! Steffi continues to prove that she is a real artist onstage, and not just some theatrical wannabe. This was an edgy, cool interpretation of the song, and this performance could stand up against any of the top artists of today. Her vocals were spot-on, and she looked fabulous from head to toe. Loved it!
Score: 9.6

Craig Sharpe "Time Is On My Side"
Tammy: I hated this performance before the first note was uttered. The prop roses got my shackles up. Perform the song for the audience, not for a couple of children! Although apparently this is his key demographic? The universal adoration of this one by the judges continues to baffle.
Score: 7.0
Destiny: I, too, am baffled by the judges' love of Craig. I always expect them to totally slam him. Zack's praise of Craig is particularly odd. I do like Craig and his stunning voice, so I guess I can see where they're coming from. It's just so unexpected. I thought he sounded great on this song, but, like Tammy, I didn't care for the overly-staged, awkward handing out of the roses. And I don't know yet what I think about Craig's new hair color.
Score: 8.0
