WEAPON OF CHOICE
(Recap by Liza)

With Matt Hoffer's song-related elimination last week from Rock Star: Supernova, it became obvious that choosing songs from now on would not be something to be taken lightly.

When the rockers return to the mansion after the first elimination show, they all give a toast to Matt, and Toby Rand gives one to Chris Pierson as well for redemption after his bottom 3 performance of "LA Woman" saved him. A broody Phil Ritchie, who was also in the bottom 3, does not feel like it was the right moment for a champagne toast, and Ryan Star jokes, "Phil, we don't know why you're here." Ryan, you're not the only one. Dilana reveals that she did not want the encore due to the pressure it puts her under.

The next day, Storm Large wanders into one of the rooms in the mansion and finds 14 Gibson guitars. "It's (bleeping) Christmas!", she yells. Chris feels as if he "definitely earned the guitar" because he had to prove himself. But if he had really earned it by, I don't know, NOT SUCKING on "Roxanne", he wouldn't have HAD to prove himself to begin with. Jenny Galt strums in her room with Storm and discusses Lukas Rossi's pointed comments about her, Dana Andrews and Chris deserving a bottom 3 placement. Jenny wonders if "maybe he sees me as competition." Jenny, the only way Lukas would see you as competition is if this show became Rock Star: The Cardigans. Magni sits alone in his vacated room and pays homage to Matt by singing and playing "Planet Earth".

It's time for the room of doom where the songs are chosen. Since song choice has played such a huge role already, they all recognize the importance of their selections. As Ryan says, "The vibe was 'You touch my song, I'll kill you.'". Despite not really knowing the song, Lukas chooses a Coldplay song. (Not knowing the song in the same way JD Fortune didn't know The Letter. He casually dropped the name of the album from which the song was pulled, and also has a Coldplay song listed among his favorites on the Supernova website. Methinks someone's studied from the master. - Tammy) Phil, who recognized just three songs there, wants "If You Could Only See". Ryan needs to go to the bathroom but is worried about what will happen to the songs he wants if he leaves. Chris really wants to do "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand, and one of the girls agrees that he needs a good song.

Dilana just recently started listening to Johnny Cash and is happy to get "Ring of Fire" without a fight from anyone. And then when she looks at the music, she worries and wishes someone had fought her. She tries to pawn it back on someone else but to no avail.

Zayra Alvarez takes "Violet" by Hole but then freaks out because she doesn't know how to play or practice it. She's not sure her voice is right for it, and Magni respectfully agrees. Jill Gioia really wants "Violet" and thinks it's better suited for her. She's right, and after Zayra hears her take on it, she knows there is no way she can outsing Jill on it. So she switches with Jill, who had "You Really Got Me". Since Zayra knew neither song, she thought she'd give Jill the one that was better suited for her.

Rehearsals with the House Band get off to a good start with Magni, who sounds good with "My Generation". And then Zayra comes in and starts caterwauling "You Really Got Me", and all of the House Banders look on with a mixed sense of amusement and fright. Musical director Paul Mirkovich says, "It's really bad" and thinks Supernova will "crucify her for it." Chris fares only slightly better with "Take Me out" but cannot grasp the melody even when Paul sings it for him. The other thing Chris can't grasp is humility because homeboy thinks that his "LA Woman" performance was so good that people would have already forgotten about "Roxanne". As Lukas said earlier in the show, Chris hasn't proven himself to have the right to be as confident as he is. Paul emphasizes this as well, saying "He's way too confident in his abilities here." (You forget...he is one of the best singers in the world. - Tammy)

Dilana worries that she'll have a "Roxanne" moment with her re-arrangement of "Ring of Fire". She wants to show her heart in this version. House Band drummer Nate Morton says, "She's either going to get no votes or every single vote." We'll see on Tuesday if her risk brings high reward.
