Top 7 Girls Compete For A Spot In The Finals On Canadian Idol 4

The Top 7 female contestants competed in the last semi-finals round Monday night on Canadian Idol 4. Some of the girls showed true drive this week, with highly-charged performances and smart song choices. Others, however, fell victim to nerves, coming across low on energy and inspiration. It's pretty clear who should move on to the finals, but with Canada's bizarre voting patterns, it's still anyone's game.

Following is the It's Destiny! panel's take on the CI4 Semi-Finals Round 3: The Girls.

Steffi DiDomenicantonio "Kiss Me"
Liza: Awesome song choice once again. It's seriously the perfect song for her voice - very whimsical and sweet - and she sounds great on it. There's something about Steffi that's so endearing; she just makes you smile. Unless you're Craig, who didn't look all too pleased when she came over to sing to Brandon.
Score: 9.0
Tammy: Agree about the choice of song for Steffi this week. She really knows what songs she sounds best on, which can't be said for all the ladies tonight. I thought that Steffi didn't quite have the 'moment' she did last week, but it was a good performance.
Score: 8.6
Destiny: Yes, this was a great song choice for Steffi. There wasn't really a "wow" moment during the performance, but the whole thing, including her pre and post-performance talking, was charming. She is a really fun person!
Score: 8.9

Ashley Coles "Think"
Liza: Bad song choice. Almost as bad as her dress choice. It's like a slowed-down, boring and more screechy version of the Katharine McPhee fluff-fest from AI5. All throughout the competition, she had been showing herself to be a rock singer, so why suddenly bust out with Aretha? It makes no sense.
Score: 6.5
Tammy: That dress was seriously impeding her ability to sing this song. She had no air and struggled to maintain her notes, due to the corseted s & m nightmare she was wearing (and might I add how creepy it was that all the males were saying how great she looked...she's 16!).
Score: 6.2
Destiny: The dress was all kinds of wrong. Total opposite look from last week, but equally as WRONG. The performance was stiff, and her vocals were very weak. Ashley seemed like a frontrunner during the Toronto round of auditions, but in the semi-finals she has just come across as mediocre.
Score: 6.0

Ashley Coulter "Crazy"
Liza: The judges wanted her to sing something other than the "bar songs" she had been doing, and it was nice to hear her do that and showcase her vocal prowess while not straying completely from her style like the other Ashley.
Score: 8.0
Tammy: Eh? To me, 'Crazy' is a bar song. I wished she would have sung a more contemporary song, as such an old tune really gives the voter no idea just who she is or what kind of album she'd make. Ashley is yet to define herself as a performer. She better decide soon, because the longer she floats aimlessly on Idol, the quicker she may fade into the background. Ashley sang the song about as well as she could, though.
Score: 7.9
Destiny: Boring song choice performed with no spice or originality. The song arrangement/cutting she chose did her no favors, either, because there were no peaks, it was all in a valley.
Score: 6.5

Nancy Silverman "Stupid"
Liza: This is the first time I've actually enjoyed her performance. Her voice was much less grating on this song, and without the nails on a chalkboard tone, I think I finally see what the judges have been raving about. She really goes out and performs. Like Steffi, she gets a bit too melodramatic and musical theatre at times, but I suppose that's better than just standing there and singing with your eyes closed.
Score: 8.7
Tammy: Nancy continues with her schtick, and I guess if you like that sort of thing, this will be right up your alley. Nancy kept her seizure movements to a minimum until the end, which I appreciated, but I still don't love the girl. I do like that she's doing something different than the rest of the balladeers, and find that when I don't have to actually watch her singing, I enjoy her performances much more.
Score: 8.3
Destiny: Zack said that there would be people who would be passionate about this girl during this competition. Well...count me as one of them! I love everything about what she does on the stage. Her voice is distinct, and her stage presence is original. I really like it! And I really didn't like her in the Toronto rounds, which makes what she is doing all the more impressive. She really explored her vocal range during this song. Can't wait to hear more.
Score: 9.0

Eva Avila "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"
Liza: How did this competition turn into American Idol all of a sudden? I fear for her after this song choice. If she doesn't know it so well, I wonder why she chose it. She has great tone, but that performance will be pretty unmemorable at the end of the day, mostly because we've seen it SO many times on American Idol .
Score: 7.3
Tammy: What Liza said. This song has been done to death, and unless you can absolutely kill this song onstage, or rework it into something new, what is the point? Eva is on dangerous ground this week, I think.
Score: 7.0
Destiny: I thought Eva put so much into this performance, showing a whole different, more playful side to herself. I appreciated the effort and thought she sounded great on the song. But, yes, I agree that the song choice wasn't the best. As for if she's on dangerous ground because of it, who knows? The voting has been so seriously whacked out this season that anyone could go or stay at any time. There's no question that Eva is one of the best females in the competition.
Score: 8.7

Kati Durst "Not Ready To Make Nice"
Liza: She looks really cute tonight and picked a good song, but the chorus sounded really rough. I don't think she hit the right notes. But it was great to see her show much more passion than she had in the past.
Score: 7.0
Tammy: As Kati started the song, I was pleasantly surprised. She was going to put in a great performance! But then...yeah. She hit the chorus, sounding a bit yell-y and out of breath. I did see a glimmer of something that I didn't realize was there before, though. Hopefully she can continue to improve next week.
Score: 7.1
Destiny: It still boggles my mind that Kati hasn't even been in the bottom four yet. She hasn't offered anything special, vocally or as a performer, and I just can't figure out who is voting for her in droves. Yes, she did show more passion and drive this week than ever before on the show, but the performance still wasn't anything really great, especially in light of the competition. Her vocals left something to be desired as well.
Score: 6.8

Sarah Loverock "She Talks To Angels"
Liza: Another good choice. That glory note Sarah hit was amazingly controlled and powerful. She probably is the best vocalist in this competition. As far as stage presence goes, though, well, Josh Logan kicked the crap out of her in that department last week on Rock Star: Supernova.
Score: 9.0
Tammy: Sarah gave the most mature performance of the season with 'She Talks To Angels'. The glory note seemed a bit out of place in such a song, however. I understand the desire to hedge your bets and throw that in just in case the lower key performance didn't go over well, but it would have been a more authentic performance without it.
Score: 9.0
Destiny: She sounded really good throughout the song, but I found the performance to be disconnected. While talking or singing, Sarah has been really low-key on the show, almost to the point of drabness, thus making any vocal accomplishments almost null. I'd really like to see her pick up the pace with song selection, get some energy and show that she's excited to be there. Her reactions to the judges and to Ben Mulroney were so dull! Come on, Sarah! Where's that sassy performer you were last season when you dueted with Josh Palmer?
Score: 7.5

Who Should Be Eliminated
Liza: Ashley Coles, Kati Durst
Tammy: Ashley Coles, Kati Durst
Destiny: Kati Durst, Ashley Coles

Who Will Be Eliminated
Liza: Ashley Coles, Ashley Coulter
Tammy: Ashley Coles, Kati Durst
Destiny: Ashley Coulter, Kati Durst (Guess I'll keep predicting her until she's actually gone. What will the voting public do next?!)
