Canadian Idol 4 Girls
Do An OK Job

The Top 9 girls remained underwhelming for the most part this week on Canadian Idol 4. There are a few standouts in the group, but on a whole, the female semi-finalists are quite dull and uninspired. Most can't even muster a personality whilst Ben Mulroney is trying to banter with them post-song. The cream of this crop is quite clear. Hopefully the Canadian voters step up to the plate and keep them in the game.

Following is the It's Destiny! panel's take on the CI4 Semi-Finals Round 2: The Girls.

Ashley Coulter "I'm The Only One"
Tammy: Another song choice that is ill-suited for piano accompaniment. Ashley changed up her look this week, but the end result was more costume than anything else. She sang well, but...that's about it. Nothing spectacular.
Score: 7.4
Liza: I don't know why some of these people pick these types of songs for the piano round, but Ashley did as well with it as she could. She has a good rock voice and is a natural on stage. Her lower register was a little weak, though, but she powered it up when she went higher. I liked her look this week. It's a bit of Sharon Stone meets Pat Benatar. I think she was offended by the elf comment.
Score: 7.8
Destiny: I thought she did a really good job with this song. I was surprised at the tepid remarks from the judges. I, too, like her new look.
Score: 8.0

Eva Avila "Killing Me Softly"
Tammy: Well that was lovely. What I like about Eva is that she doesn't try to add too many runs or trills as she sings, she lets the song stand on its own. I can only see her improving as the show progresses.
Score: 8.8
Liza: She has such pretty clarity in her tone. The tempo of the song was not quite to my liking, but the ending was very lovely, as is she. She is such a pretty girl.
Score: 8.3
Destiny: Yes, she is truly beautiful. You can't take your eyes off of her! There is something so lovely in her tone, too. She didn't display that to it's fullest with this performance, but she still sounded very nice. Her understated personality plays wonderfully off of her stunning beauty, too. The whole thing makes you want to come back for more, which can only be a good thing, right?
Score: 8.9

Alisha Nauth "Against All Odds"
Tammy: Is this song really deserving of how many times it's been performed on Idol? More often than not, this song rarely blows me away. It did nothing for Alisha tonight, and she never connected with the song. Bor-ing.
Score: 7.0
Liza: I thought it was an uneven performance. The first line was pretty, and then BAM she shrieked the second line while straying from the original melody, and then went back to more subdued in the subsequent line. What was the point of that? She has a nice voice, but this was not her finest performance. The chopping of the song did her no favors either. As Zack said, it was repetitive.
Score: 6.8
Destiny: I think Idol voice coach Debra Byrd must have several copies of this song in her stack of sheet music perused by Idol contestants. There is no other explanation for why it is sung so often! It's not really a crowd-pleaser, and no one ever really gets rave reviews from the judges when they do it. That being said, Alisha has a great voice and such ease on the stage, making her undoubtedly one of the top 3 females in the competition. She absolutely deserves to make it on through to the Top 10 and beyond.
Score: 7.9

Sarah Loverock "I Don't Wanna Be"
Tammy: Sarah oversang this song a bit. She sounded a bit stiff. Still don't understand the appeal of this girl.
Score: 7.5
Liza: Another odd choice for the piano round. It was a bit of an odd fit for her, too, because Sarah's voice was too sweet-sounding for that song. She has pipes, though, and she could probably really rock on a more appropriate song for her. I agree about her stiffness. She really needs to loosen up.
Score: 7.8
Destiny: I find myself really wanting to like Sarah, but she never wows me vocally or with her stage presence. There just doesn't seem to be much there.
Score: 7.5

Steffi DiDomenicantonio "White Flag"
Tammy: Steffi is a star. She definitely 'musical theatre'ed' the heck out of it, but she has such a glow onstage that is hard to ignore. Perhaps not Idol material, but definitely entertaining.
Score: 8.7
Liza: She may be the best actress Canada has ever seen because I bought every line of that performance from her. That was really terrific. Great song, great singing and amazing emoting from her. I also love that she did a contemporary song to prove that she is no John Stevens.
Score: 8.8
Destiny: Steffi is so endearing. I agree that it was really nice that she chose a contemporary song. It allowed her to show that she just may have what it takes to be a hit in today's music scene.
Score: 8.8

Kati Durst "I Hope You Dance"
Tammy: A step up from last week, but still not especially engaging. Meh.
Score: 7.3
Liza: Kati sounds lovely singing this song, and her vocals are outstanding, but she has nothing in the stage presence department. Maybe she doesn't move because she's afraid she'll fall in those Herman Munster shoes.
Score: 7.5
Destiny: Yeah, what's up with those shoes? They've bugged me since the audition rounds. They don't seem to go with her style or personality. As for her singing, it is good, but nothing that really captures my attention. The fact that she has absolutely zero stage presence during or after her performance doesn't help her either. I really don't know how she wasn't in the bottom four last week.
Score: 7.0

Ashley Coles "Misery"
Tammy: Ashley tried to show a different facet of her personality with this song, and for the most part, it served her well. There were a few iffy notes as she sang, but it was much better than her previous performance.
Score: 7.8
Liza: Much much better than last week. She had a few shrieky notes, but overall, it was unexpectedly good. I don't know if singing an unfamiliar song will hurt her with the voters, but at least she sang it well.
Score: 7.8
Destiny: Yes, this was much better than last week. She had moments that sounded really great in a Christina Aguilera kind of way. Her outfit, on the other hand, was a terrible misstep.
Score: 7.5

Alyssa Klazek "Magic Carpet Ride"
Tammy: Wow. That was very lounge act. Time to trim the fat, CI voters!
Score: 5.0
Liza: Lounge act, cabaret act, karaoke act. She was all of that in a minute and a half. Alyssa does not have enough rock in her to sing this song, and her stage presence is so lacking.
Score: 4.0
Destiny: Alyssa so wants to be a cool bohemian artist, but she just doesn't have it in her. She looks the part, but doesn't have the vocal chops or the instincts to come anywhere close to pulling it off. She showed her young age with this karaoke contest performance.
Score: 4.5

Nancy Silverman "Fallin'"
Tammy: Nancy annoyed me less than this week, but her performance still seemed more sideshow than anything else to me. If she toned down some of her onstage antics, she could grow into a decent performer.
Score: 8.4
Liza: I truly don't understand what the judges see in her other than her onstage antics and dramatics. Elena Juatco had dramatics too, but at least she had a pleasant-sounding voice. Nancy's voice would cut me in my sleep. Her tone is horrific, and I don't care what Zack says. Sometimes when she sings, she reminds me of Mike Myers' Linda Richman character. I. Do. Not. Get. It.
Score: 4.5
DestinyI must say that after being seriously on the fence with this girl, now I. Do.Get. It. I really like her personality and her voice. She's totally free and totally original. I likes it.
Score: 9.0
