Canadian Idol 4's Top 11 Girls
Are No Match For The Guys

The guys rocked the house Monday night on Canadian Idol 4 as they strutted their stuff for the first time before a voting public. When faced with the same task on Tuesday, the female semi-finalists fell short, making one wish for an all-male Top 10.

Following is the It's Destiny! panel's take on the
CI4 Semi-Finals Round 1: Top 11 Girls.

Ashley Coles "Alone"
Destiny: I thought this girl was going to be a major contender for the title based on what she did in the Toronto round. She may still get the votes, but tonight's performance wasn't really worthy. It was so lackluster in terms of energy and presentation. She sounded OK, but was so disconnected and lost on the stage.
Score: 6.4
Tammy: This was definitely an amateur night performance. Ashley has a good voice, but needs more time performing in front of audiences to hone her skill. She bit off more than she could chew with 'Alone'.
Score: 6.8
Liza: I really like how she started the song. Her tone is really pretty there. But, as I feared, she didn't handle the chorus well at all. After the first verse, it turned into a screechy, out of tune mess. The judges are being far too kind.
Score: 4.0

Kati Durst "Drift Away"
Destiny: This could very well be the most-sung song in Canadian Idol history. Unfortunately, this was probably the dullest version of it to date. The way she sang it was so lounge lizard. Nothing memorable at all about this performance.
Score: 6.0
Tammy: This performance was very strange. Kati had absolutely no connection with the song, or the audience. Utterly lifeless and bland.
Score: 6.0
Liza: She has a nice voice, but what a snooze-fest.
Score: 6.0

Alyssa Klazek "I Am Ready For Love"
Destiny: Jake said it best when he said that Alyssa sucked all the soul out of this song. Seemed like a great song choice for her, but she just didn't deliver.
Score: 6.0
Tammy: What on earth did Alyssa do to this song? In an attempt to 'make it her own', she instead reworked the song into a lifeless mess. Rather than showing herself to be bohemian and unique (which I believe was her intent), it was just plain bad.
Score: 5.0
Liza: With a song like this, I expect to be moved, and the only thing I could be moved to do was tune out.
Score: 5.5

Valerie Jalbert "Remember Me This Way"
Destiny: Valerie has such a warm personality that translates on and off the stage. She sounded great on this song; she has a really lovely tone to her voice. This performance wasn't the best thing I've ever seen/heard, but it was the best of the night so far.
Score: 8.0
Tammy: Valerie offered nothing new or interesting with this performance. Highly forgettable. Maybe next year is her year.
Score: 6.6
Liza: This was easily the best of the night thus far. She has a lovely voice and sings with a lot of passion. I do not remember her singing this well the last time. She has definitely improved in the last two years.
Score: 7.5

Steffi DiDomenicantonio "I Only Have Eyes For You"
Destiny: I adore this girl. Unfortunately, I adored her video segment and pre/post performance banter much more than her actual performance. I didn't like the song choice, and she sounded somewhat weak throughout. She is capable of something so much more special than this.
Score: 7.0
Tammy: I admit to having an affinity for Steffi as well. She has a spark onstage which cannot be denied. Though the song most likely did not appeal to the masses, she performed a song which she enjoyed singing, and that came through when she sang.
Score: 8.4
Liza: She's cute, and I like hearing my name on TV all the time (hee!), but her hammy, cutesy musical theater thing just doesn't belong on the Idol stage. But good on her for staying true to herself.
Score: 6.0

Sarah Loverock "Since I Fell For You"
Destiny: This performance wasn't as great as Sarah's duet with Josh Palmer last season in Toronto, but it was still a standout for the evening. She has a nice voice. I hope she chooses more interesting songs in the future. She could make a name for herself if she does.
Score: 8.0
Tammy: This performance would have been more effective if Sarah had just sang the song straight. She tried to add too many runs, and ruined the flow of the song. She can sing, but she tried to do too much tonight.
Score: 7.4
Liza: I much preferred the way Katharine McPhee sang this song at this stage of the competition on American Idol. I agree with Zack and Jake in that this is so not the song she would or should be doing. She has her moments in the song and has a good voice, but I would have expected much more from her.
Score: 6.5

Alisha Nauth "Always"
Destiny: Alisha has the most powerful female voice in the competition. Whether or not it is the most interesting remains to be seen. She did a good job on a somewhat dull song.
Score: 8.0
Tammy: Alisha does indeed have a powerful voice, but her stage mannerisms grated. The bouncing and smiling as she sang did not match up with the song at all. A performer cannot survive on voice alone, and I think Alisha will prove to be a prime example of that.
Score: 7.9
Liza: This was the only performance of the night that would hold up in the real world. She combined a great voice with confidence and stage presence. She's so different from the other girls in the competition, and I could totally hear her on the radio today. That was great.
Score: 8.5

Eva Avila "Angel"
Destiny: This girl is so adorable. She sings lovely, to boot. This was a smart song choice, and she performed it beautifully.
Score: 8.9
Tammy: Eva didn't try to spin this song into something it was not. She sang it simply and as it was written, and as a result ended up with one of the strongest performances of the night.
Score: 8.6
Liza: I wasn't nearly as high on it as you all and the judges were. I thought she sang it with a little too much pep, and I thought it was very average. I'm shocked that Sass forgot about Gary. She drooled over him all season. I thought Gary's version was better.
Score: 5.5

Nancy Silverman "Could I Be Your Girl"
Destiny: Man, this girl is a wild thing! She's the strangest mix of Alanis Morissette, a Saturday Night Live skit, and a belter in Rent. I don't quite know what to make of her yet.
Score: 8.0
Tammy: I know what to make of her. Loud + annoying = mute on my tv.
Score: 7.0
Liza: I find her voice to have a very annoying tone to it, and her mannerisms are so over the top Broadway. I don't think I could bear another week of her.
Score: 4.0

Anna-Belle Oliva "Someone Like You"
Destiny: I adore this song! I haven't heard it in years, and it still tugs at my heartstrings. Anna-Belle did a lovely job with it. She is such a beautiful girl with so much style. Her voice may not be a showstopper, but it is understated and lovely.
Score: 8.8
Tammy: There is something so likeable about Anna-Belle. She has a touch of Celine in her mannerisms as she sings (which in my opinion, isn't a bad thing). I thought she did a much better job than the judges gave her credit for. Here's hoping she lives to see another week.
Score: 8.6
Liza: It's far too early to sing dreck like this. The song choice may sink her. She sounded very nice at parts, but the song ...
Score: 5.5

Ashley Coulter "Bring It On Home To Me"
Destiny: This was a good performance. There may be something missing with Ashley as an artist, but I'd like to see more of her. Hopefully, she can rise to the occasion and do something great. She seems to have the tools. She needs to choose songs better suited for her than this one.
Score: 8.0
Tammy: Ashley blew me away with her vocals tonight. Holy crap! She connected with her audience, and was determined that the viewers would not forget her. Ashley can wail with the best of them.
Score: 9.5
Liza: Yeah, she can definitely wail. She resorted to a bit too much shouting at the end, which was unfortunate because the beginning was really great. The outfit though? The dress by itself would have been cute, but paired with the jeans? Eeks.
Score: 7.75
