Top 2 Named On Canadian Idol 3
idollogolight_thumb.jpgci3-top2.jpgTeenagers Melissa O'Neil and Rex Goudie became the Top Two on Canadian Idol 3 Wednesday night. They will battle it out for the title next Tuesday in a showdown unlike any other in Idol history. Usually at this point in an Idol competition there is a standout who has a huge fanbase, a huge talent, and/or a huge advantage with the judges. Sometimes the Top 2 on Idol shows are both frontrunners, with a close race at hand. But never has there been a situation as is now, where neither one is a frontrunner because neither one has a monstrously huge fanbase, neither one has stepped up his/her game in recent weeks, and neither one has the judges falling over themselves to promote him/her. Clearly, Melissa O'Neil is the superior talent of the two, vocally and performance-wise. That doesn't guarantee her a win, however, because Rex Goudie has the votes of many a young girl across the country based solely on his good looks. The results will certainly be interesting.

Next Tuesday, O'Neil and Goudie will sing three songs apiece, including a song of their own choosing that they've done earlier in the competition, a judges' choice song, and the new Canadian Idol single, "Alive." During this show, Theresa Sokyrka will also turn in a performance from her debut album, These Old Charms. Wednesday night is the two hour Grand Finale, which, in addition to the crowning of the Idol, will feature performances by this season's Top 10, Kalan Porter, and The Barenaked Ladies.
