Canadian Idol:
Elvis Has Fled The Building

idollogolight_thumb.jpg Elvis was alive but not so well this week on Canadian Idol. The Final Four sang two of The King's songs apiece on Tuesday night, all falling short of expectations. Perhaps their weekend trip to Memphis wore them out, but there really are no excuses. It's time for one of these contestants to step things up and show that they have some serious star power and really want to win this thing.
Here's the It's Destiny! panel's take on this week's performances.

aaron-teddy-bear.jpgAaron Walpole "Teddy Bear"
Tammy: Why on earth would he willingly choose this song? It has no 'wow' factor. It barely has a 'meh' factor. Very dull, Aaron. Not much you can do with this song, though.
Score: 6.0

Liza: I am not surprised in the least that he picked this song. I also thought it was dull and a bit disconnected, but I can't help but think that after two weeks with a live band, going back to the karaoke track was going to be jarring and a big buzzkill. He seemed a teensy bit off in tempo and pitch at times, as well.
Score: 6.0

Destiny: First off, as this Elvis-inspired show gets underway, I must ask why Ben Mulroney isn't sporting an Elvis-inspired outfit? I want him in black leather now!
As for Aaron, I am with Liza in that I am not surprised in the least that Aaron chose to sing "Teddy Bear." He was trying to be strategic with the choice and rack in the votes by appealing to those who love his big-guy-with-teddy-bear qualities a la Ruben Studdard. It wasn't really my cup of tea, but I wouldn't be surprised if it won him major votes.
Score: 6.5

suzi-heartbreak-hotel.jpgSuzi Rawn "Heartbreak Hotel"
Tammy: Ooh, I actually like this outfit. She should burn all those prior dress/skirt ensembles. Pants are where it's at, Suzi. As for the song...uh...well. I was bored. A theme that was fairly consistent tonight.
Score: 6.0

Liza: Fashion tips taken from Josh Palmer, I see. Suzi sang that song in such a bizarre schizophrenic manner. It was an odd mix of angry female rocker and sultry blues songstress. Pick one personality and stick to it, Suzi!
Score: 6.0

Destiny: Did someone say Josh Palmer? Yet another week during which he could have shined. Oh, how they needed him there.
I agree that Suzi presented an odd mix of styles with this one. She was trying her best to be different and put her own mark on the song. It ended up being muddled and overdramatic.
Score: 5.5

melissa-a-little-less-conversation-.jpgMelissa O'Neil "A Little Less Conversation"
Tammy: You would think that Melissa, the sassiest contestant left in the competition, would be able to pull this song off. And yet...nope. Another dismal performance. Gah. Were these people drugged before the show?
Score: 6.0

Liza: I actually liked this performance and disagree with the judges. Wrong key? Schreechy? Eh???
Score: 7.0

Destiny: I'm with Tammy. I expected so much more out of Melissa. The first half of the song was way too weak. About halfway through she stepped it up, but it wasn't enough. She is capable of so much more. It's really disappointing how she is not fulfilling her potential every week.
Score: 6.0

rex-blue-suede-shoes.jpgRex Goudie "Blue Suede Shoes"
Tammy: Mommy, make it stop! I can't handle any more mediocrity! Oh Rex. I can't even swoon over your hotness this week, because it looks like you dipped your hair in a vat of grease. The judges look annoyed because they don't know who to pimp at this point, they're all at the same level of suck.
Score: 6.0

Liza: If only Rex were as mobile as Elvis and didn't make Jon Peter Lewis look like Ricky Martin in comparison, that would have been a killer performance. I like the way he sang that song, and I love that he actually wore blue shoes.
Score: 7.5

Destiny: Yes, the main redeeming quality of the performance is that he did indeed sport blue suede shoes- even if they were sneakers.
Score: 6.0

aaron-love-me-tender.jpgAaron Walpole "Love Me Tender"
Tammy: Eh. While not terrible, the performance did seem very Lawrence Welk to me. He's capable of a lot better.
Score: 6.5

Liza: Sass called Rex's first song boring, and then Aaron goes out immediately after with the most boring and simple song ever! I am surprised she wasn't comatose after that. While Aaron sounded nice singing it, and while he really is the best vocalist left in the competition, that song was not challenging in the least, nor was it very compelling. But it was better than his first.
Score: 6.5

Destiny: I totally appreciate his effort in trying to put his all into interpreting the song, but it was slightly overcooked and therefore not believable. Liza, I wouldn't call this the most boring and simple song ever! When done right, it certainly is swoonworthy. Unfortunately, it wasn't done right by Mr. Walpole.
Score: 6.5

suzi-cant-help-falling-in-love.jpgSuzi Rawn "Can't Help Falling In Love"
Tammy: Wow, a performance that was actually unique! While the song was definitely pitchy in places, it was the most interesting of the night. Not sure why they chose to place her on a cube (?) instead of a stool. It just looked odd. Still, a nice arrangement, and I saw a spark in Suzi I hadn't seen before.
Score: 8.5

Liza: Although I do appreciate the uniqueness and the spark of originality and vulnerability (not to mention the fact that Suzi finally performed a song in a different manner than her usual stomp rock fest), she could not hit the low notes and fell out of tune while warbling the rest. If you are going to change the melody so much that it's barely recognizable, you have to make sure you can hit the notes. It's such a shame because that could have been truly spectacular.
Score: 6.25

Destiny: I agree- it bordered on being really fabulous. I thought she had a bad start, especially with the thin, high notes she delivered, but the middle was spectacular. I wish she could have pulled it all together.
Score: 8.7

melissa-youll-never-walk-alone.jpgMelissa O'Neil "You'll Never Walk Alone"
Tammy: I love this song, but I didn't feel that Melissa really injected any life in it. This is a song she could have killed, but she merely did a rather predictable rendition. Nice, but not that thrilling.
Score: 7.5

Liza: It was, as Sass said, simple and stunning. I love the fact that Melissa didn't feel the need to infuse unnecessary glory notes and vocal gymnastics into that song. One thing that really impresses me about her is that she has taken every genre on this show and performed it with ease. Very well done.
Score: 8.0

Destiny: I'm with Tammy on this one- there was very little life in this performance. And what's with her Kelly Clarkson left-hand-on-stomach-while-singing move? For all the Clarkson tendencies O'Neil has, it's really too bad she doesn't mimic her perfect Idol record of turning in strong vocals and performances every week. Melissa could have done a much better job with this song, vocally and performance-wise. I know she was trying to be understated yet dramatic, but it didn't work for me. But, since I really like Melissa and she is the best all-around contestant left in the competition, I was glad that the judges were nice to her. I don't agree with their high praise, but I was glad she wasn't slammed. Oh, and the song choice? Not exactly on my short list of "Elvis" songs, but it was a nice tribute to the Jerry Lewis Telethon, which is on this weekend.
Score: 6.5

rex-if-i-can-dream.jpgRex "If I Can Dream"
Tammy: Oh Rex. Yikes. Those were not some good vocals. Heh. Zack looks pretty ticked that this is the top four this year. Well, so am I! If you ever feel like inducing a coma, watch this group.
Score: 5.0

Liza: Manic facial expressions? A mini pelvic thrust? Hmmm ... Elvis is still alive?? I got nothing else to say. Just meh.
Score: 5.5

Destiny: Yes, this was pretty meh all the way around. He started the song off so weak, and when he finally got stronger, he fell off key. What happened to the cool Rex with a great voice and stage presence that was in the semi-finals? He has lost all his star quality over the past couple weeks. It's almost tragic.
And I must add that I have been wanting Idol to do an Elvis theme week for some time now. This isn't exactly how I envisioned it going. How I wish we could gather together all the Idol greats and give them this theme and see what treasures really could and should have been produced. With Rex's performance being the last of the mediocre night, Elvis has left the building, and for the first time in history that is a good thing.
Score: 5.0

Who Should Be The Bottom Two:
Tammy: All of them
Liza: Heh. Good one. I'll say Suzi and Aaron.
Destiny: I agree! Since it ain't gonna happen, I'll say Rex and Melissa.

Who Will Be The Bottom Two:
