The Guess Who Mangled On Canadian Idol
idollogolight_thumb.jpgThe music of Burton Cummings and The Guess Who is quite fantastic, but you wouldn't know that after watching this week's Canadian Idol. The contestants mostly managed to suck all the life and passion out of this music, leaving it hollow and unmoving. Where's Josh Palmer when you need him? Luckily, the show ended on a high note with a finalist turning in his personal best of the season.
Here's the It's Destiny! panel's take on this week's performances.

rex-goudie-top5.jpgRex Goudie"No Sugar Tonight"
Tammy: Rex delivered a completely forgettable performance this week. Again, he turns his back to the audience and sings to the band. Why does he continue to do this? Is this all you have in your repertoire for onstage moves? I really hope Rex sings something next week that proves he has more depth than a paddling pool, because I am quickly losing interest. The pretty can only take you so far. I am yet to see that Rex has any performing instincts that make him a true artist.
Score: 5.5

Destiny: I agree. What happened to the cool guy with artistic instincts and excitement that Rex was in the semifinals round? He gets more boring and uninspiring every week. He looked scared and so disconnected. It felt like he was just trying to get through the song.
Score: 5.0

Liza: First of all, I would just like to state that I am writing this review under protest due to the cruel dumping of Shane Wiebe from this week's results show. As if I'd rather see another stupid Jon Dore skit or a soul-less and sometimes tuneless medley. Ahem. Anyhoo, I have to agree with you gals on the disconnect. The thankfully hat-less Rex looks natural leading a band, but he closes off the audience for a good chunk of the song. The boy IS stiff, as Farley said. His vocals were okay, but the performance qualities left little to be desired.
Score: 5.5

casey-leblanc-top5.jpgCasey LeBlanc"Timeless Love"
Tammy: Casey found a song this week that perfectly suits her voice. She sounded very LeAnn Rimes tonight. If she just found a way to stop that rocking back and forth while she sang, and connected more with the song, she'd be a fierce competitor.
Score: 7.7

Destiny: Yes, this is a great song. Unfortunately she totally missed the inherent passion of the song. She was so disjointed from the band and backup singers, too. Her vocals were quiet and mumbled to boot. Oh, and Liza, you can slam the medleys, but don't even call the Jon Dore skits stupid!
Score: 5.5

Liza: I've got to give her props this week - Casey sounds really lovely. But if we're going to crack on Rex for his stiffness, we have to crack on Casey for her dorky swaying back and forth. I'm with Zack in that it was like watching paint dry.
Score: 6.0

suzi-rawn-top5.jpgSuzi Rawn"American Woman"
Tammy: Suzi, in an attempt to top last week's disastrous outfit, has outdone herself with an ensemble that looks more suited for a meeting at the Water Buffalo Lodge than an Idol competition. With her patented stomp, stomp, kick, kick moves, she delivered a lifeless performance worthy of a trip home. Away with you, faux rocker!
Score: 5.0

Destiny: It was OK. That's it.
Score: 6.0

Liza: This whole thing is strange, from the gender-bending, to the ugly green shrug, to the Constantine-esque kicks, to the weird lull when she went into the audience. I am not impressed.
Score: 5.0

melissa-oneil-top5.jpgMelissa O'Neil"My Own Way To Rock"
Tammy: Eek. Melissa's cute and all, but this performance was no better than that which you'd see at any high school. She showed no range and had little presence. Bad song selection may mean the end of Melissa.
Score: 5.0

Destiny: I thought it was a good performance, just a little light on vocals. She is so adorable and definitely the best of the night thus far at conveying the song.
Score: 7.0

Liza: Melissa always looks like she is having the most fun up there, and her natural-ness is very endearing, but I agree with the judges about that bad song choice. I don't think she will get voted out over this, however.
Score: 5.5

aaron-walpole-top-5.jpgAaron Walpole"These Eyes"
Tammy: Aaron steps it up a notch tonight! He delivered an amazing, moving performance, one of the best of Canadian Idol. Looked like boy was going to work himself into some actual tears onstage for a moment. What Aaron does might not be for everyone, but what he does, he does well.
Score: 9.9

Destiny: This was Aaron's best performance on the show, and he was definitely the best of the night. He sounded great and delivered a beautiful interpretation of the song. He may have just secured himself a spot in the Top 2.
Score: 9.4

Liza: Aaron saves the show! Best of the night, maybe even the best of the season.
Score: 9.75
